The Annual Summer Blog Break
BRINGING STORYTIME MAGIC TO YOUR INBOX
FROM MY READING CORNER | 5/15/26
Thoughts from my reading corner:
School is out for the summer! Well, almost…our little girl celebrated her preschool graduation this week, and our little guy, who just turned seven, so our not-so-little guy, finishes up his school year next week. It seems unthinkable that we have been settled in our new home for one whole year now. We’ve made new friends, found new favorite places, and at times missed the old familiar. I think I can say with confidence that we are loving Nebraska life, but I do wonder how long I will keep referring to Kansas City as “back home.” There are imprints permanently left on our hearts for friends that feel more like family, who we miss and hope to see again soon. We have yet to find a new favorite donut spot that is anywhere close to our favorite “back home,” but we are settling into a community we are all excited to be part of.
As I gear up for my annual blog break and embark on another epic summer adventure with the kiddos, the last one before they are both at the big school (I’m not crying…okay, maybe I am), I am filled with hope and excitement. I hope you all have a wonderful summer. I hope you are able to go on adventures together as a family…and if some of those adventures take place while exploring a new book, even better! I hope you will take a look below at a few of the events I have scheduled for June, July, and August. I’ll send reminders the week of the events. I can’t wait to reconnect with you all in September.
Share joy, spread kindness, and as always, happy reading.

What We Are Reading
Tuck’s Bookshelf:Stink by Megan McDonald (the author of Judy Moody, “Stink” is her brother). Tucker’s school library held a book exchange. For every three books you donated, you got to pick one out to take home. He brought 12 home, including two more Stink books—we are all excited about that!
Ella Bella’s Bookshelf: Ella has been flipping through The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. It won a John Newbery Medal, and we picked it up at a thrift store. I can’t wait to read it after we finish the new Stink books.
My Bookshelf: I’m still reading A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult.
New News: My husband has started working on my Free Little Library. I can’t wait to have it all set up and see what goodies the neighborhood starts trading. Do you have one in your neighborhood?

Painting and Beads
We started the summer excitement by making bracelets for family and friends.
I found sparkly watercolor paint for $3.99 at TJ Maxx the other day, and Ella painted on butcher paper from Home Depot.
Tip: move your normal activities outside to give them a fresh spin. The kids love the change of atmosphere—it feels like something brand new!
Until next time.
