Holiday Tears
YOUR WEEKLY READING CORNER
FROM MY CORNER:
The Christmas Magic
This might be embarrassing to admit, but I cried going to sleep the other night. The craziest part about it—I was in a fantastic mood and genuinely happy. So, why the tears? Well, it hit me after the kids’ excitement from watching the Santa Claus movie. (Yes, the one from the 90s…can we agree that the best holiday films are the old ones?). They were full of excitement. Every ornament on the tree made them smile. The holiday movie list. The elves. The presents. Spending time with family. Every single holiday tradition was creating this magical anticipation, and it suddenly dawned on me before bed that it won’t always be like this. Someday, they won’t make a Santa list, circle every toy in the magazine, or exercise blind faith in Christmas traditions. They might lose some of the excitement. They are growing, and there are moments when I wish I could freeze time. I don’t know how many more years I have of extreme enthusiasm, but I want to make the most of every minute of this pure joy.
Then my husband reminded me that I haven’t lost the sparkle or the magic. That my eyes still light up with the thought of putting up the Christmas tree. I still smile from ear to ear when I see the first house with lights turned on. So maybe the fear of what could be is what I need to let go of, because I’m instilling the holiday sparkle to carry on, no matter whether the Santa list is made or not.
Do the holidays get you in your feels too?
THE KIDS’ CORNER:
What We Are Reading
Tuck’s Bookshelf: The Fly Guy books by Tedd Arnold - they are silly and great beginner readers.
Ella Bella’s Bookshelf: Anything and everything princess-themed. She has been using her little audio book princess collection. She will push the buttons to hear the stories, or make up what the princesses are saying and “read” them on her own.
My Bookshelf: I have been trying to stay off my phone when the family is around, so I have switched to sitting down and doing word searches.
However, I did start reading The Wizard of Oz to the kids. I’ve seen the movie one million times, but I’ve never actually read the classic tale. We are all enjoying it, and I can’t wait to watch the film as a family once we are through it.
What are you reading?
THE CRAFT CORNER:
Write (or illustrate) a Book
If you have ordered one of my book boxes, you know that each box includes a craft with all the supplies needed to complete it. If you haven’t ordered one yet, they will be 35% off for BLACK FRIDAY.
My kids were recently working on the “create your own book” craft from the positive affirmations book box. The supplies are ready for the kids to create their own story with stickers, markers, or words.
They will work on the letter to Santa (also included in the holiday book box). If you order one by the first week of December, you can send your kiddos’ letters in and get a response from the big guy at the North Pole (postage included).
What I’m Looking Forward to…
THANKSGIVING! CHRISTMAS! ALL. THE. HOLIDAYS.
My husband lit up our house like he was Clark Griswold on a mission to light up the neighborhood. It sounds like an exaggeration, but the candy canes lining our yard and the Grinch climbing our window say otherwise. When it comes to decorating our house, he goes over the top and I love it…Secretly, I know he is just as big a fan of the holiday cheer as I am. The trees are up and the lights are on…bring on all the festivities—I can’t wait!
What are you excited about this week?
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Until next time, happy reading.
