Girls Weekend: Friendship, Laughter, and Memories in Omaha
This summer, I was fortunate enough to host my childhood friends for a girls weekend in Omaha. Think “Now and Then” meets a Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen movie—we laughed, we cried, and we fully enjoyed being together.
The older I get, the more I appreciate the beauty of lifelong friendships. These are the friends who once played dolls and school with you, and now are holding each other’s real babies and sending first-day-of-school photos. Time goes by in the blink of an eye, but friendships like these truly stand the test of time.
We treated our weekend like a mini-vacation. I put together a fun itinerary filled with activities, but I also made sure to leave plenty of room for coffee, downtime, and conversation. I thought I’d share some of the highlights in case you’re looking for inspiration to plan your own girls’ weekend with the friends you cherish.
Girls Weekend Highlights
✨ A Breath of Fresh Air
Some of us hadn’t seen each other in over ten years, not since celebrating weddings. But it’s amazing how nearly 30 years of friendship can feel like no time has passed at all.
✨ The Wig Exchange
We surprised each other with a hilarious wig exchange—and I highly recommend it! There’s nothing like laughter to instantly bring back that childhood energy.
✨ Crafting with Kintsugi
We did a craft together—Kintsugi, the Japanese art form that repairs broken pottery with gold. It felt like the perfect metaphor for friendship. We’ve all been through tough times, but it’s from those cracks and challenges that we become even more beautiful.
✨ Conversation Cards
We used conversation cards to spark meaningful discussions, from parenting and homeschooling vs. public education, to dreams, challenges, and everything in between. These deep conversations reminded us how important it is to check in, encourage, and cheer each other on.
✨ Relaxation + Food
We walked, we laughed, we ate delicious meals, and most importantly—we enjoyed the simple gift of being together.
Why Girls Weekends Matter
If there’s one reminder I want to leave you with, it’s this: focus on the real things in life—like friendships that sustain you.
Coffee chats that turn into therapy sessions.
The joy of feeling valued and truly seen.
The gift of women supporting women.
In a world that often feels divided, a girls’ weekend can bring the connection and community we all crave. Whether it’s a single night or a whole weekend, take the time to laugh, cry, and encourage each other because a full cup equals a full life.
Final Thoughts
Friendship is a gift worth celebrating. Whether you plan a girls weekend in Omaha or in your own hometown, make it a time to reconnect, refresh, and recharge with the people who honor who you are.
So this weekend, I encourage you to unplug, grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, and be fully present with your people.
Because at the end of the day, it’s the memories, not the “to-do lists,” that matter most.
Happy weekend, and as always—happy reading.
Take a moment this week to unplug from the noise and focus on what’s right in front of you. Text a friend, set up a coffee date, or even plan your own mini girls weekend. How do you stay connected to your friends when life gets busy?
